Whilst we’re on the subject of Moda Exhibitions, let me share with you another brand which I feel have a great season ahead of them – and that’s good old faithfuls, Curvy Kate. Again, since their awesome YouTube video (anyone seeing a theme lately of these sneak preview videos popping up everywhere?!), this Autumn/Winter collection has gotten Becky and I rather excited. Plus, can I just take a moment to stress the excitement at the thought of a babydoll up to a K cup!?
Star in a Bra is a competition that I’ve followed since the beginning – I remember back when Lauren Colfer and Laura Butler stormed their year’s competitions and showed us all how it was done. I’ve been everything from a spectating fellow Curvy Kate fan, to a rejected entrant, to a top 30 finalist to a judge. So I think it’s safe to say I’ve seen the competition from every possible angle. It seems crazy that it’s been three years now since I entered and didn’t get through, two since I made the top 30, and a year since I was helping whittle down the favourites into just 30 girls from a list of hundreds of beauties.
We’ve been well and truly treated by this year’s Star in a Bra competitions. We’ve had the drop-dead-gorgeous UK winner Sophie Morgan, and joining her this week is the first ever US winner, Krista Cousins. 30GG Krista, 24 from Brooklyn, New York, beat hundreds of other hopefuls through two gruelling voting rounds. She will front Curvy Kate‘s award-winning marketing campaigns – includes flights to the UK to appear in the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2013 brochure.
They’ve gotten into their bra and knickers and snapped their entry shots, they’ve submitted their five photos to Curvy Kate’s panel of judges, they’ve beaten over 1000 other curvy hopefuls to the top 30 and faced the public vote, they’ve been whittled down to the public’s top 10; been preened, pampered, backcombed, and snapped by a professional photographer at the top 10 photo shoot, and they’ve faced the public vote. Again.
Cast your mind back to this time last year. I myself was shreiking in excitement to find that I’d made it to the final 30 of Curvy Kates infamous Star in a Bra competition. It felt amazing to be chosen from a group of 400 other curvy hopefuls and is something that really helped make this blog what it is today – full length body shot pictures and all! This year, however, record numbers of curvy hopefuls applied to the annual model search (more than a thousand to be a bit more precise!) all competing for that much-sought-after title to be the ‘queen of curves’.
So it has finally been unveiled… Curvy Kate recently announced the opening date of their infamous Star in a Bra competition as the 23rd February – but with just over a week to go they pulled their next card from their sleeves to reveal they’ll be taking the competition to America for the first time in April 2012.
As it was Australia Day last week – instead of celebrating in traditional Aussie fashion, we thought it would be the perfect time to get in touch with Star in a Bra model search winner Julia McLean. With only a few short weeks to go before the launch of Curvy Kate’s Star in a Bra competition, (Blimey, is it that time again already!?) We were eager to catch up with the brand’s latest victor Julia McLean who triumphed in the Australian ‘SIAB’.
