If you’ve been following me on Instagram or Twitter you may have seen my incessant mentions of My Fitness Pal and going to the gym more often than I go to the bathroom. I’ve been following this updated gym routine since January (I know, a New Year’s Resolution that I’ve actually stuck to for longer than 2 weeks!), and I’m pretty chuffed to have dropped a dress size and lost 9kg in just three months.
Image source: pichost.me Lingerie gifts have gone hand in hand with Valentine’s Day for as long as I can remember, as couples (and singletons for that matter!) indulge in the theatre of a ‘sexy’ lingerie set. Whereas I’m all for adopting this ‘on the daily’ if that’s your bag, but I do still, admittedly, still love looking around at the collections that are released in the lead up to this time of year as companies target the ‘gifting’ season. of Christmas and V-day. I decided to indulge myself and put some of my top picks in a blog post, as my bank account is bare and I’m unable to indulge in any other way. It’s like the blogger’s equivalent of ‘bagging‘. So what would I like to receive on the 14th of February this year?
Moda time is one of my favourite times of year. There’s nothing I love more than popping around the stalls and seeing what my favourite brands have to offer in the coming seasons – or even better – finding a new favourite brand to drool over! This year was no different, with a fair few ‘must haves’ from the likes of Gossard, Tutti Rouge, Freya, Panache and more. Warning: this season is not for the shy – I’ve put together a summary of some of the trends I spotted weaving their way through each of the collections, with neon bright shades, oriental, strong colours and bold florals making a strong statement.
I have to say, with weather like we’re having in the UK at the moment (and long may it continue, pretty please!) I have to admit that most days I’ve rarely been out of a bikini, whether I’ve been on the beach or in the office. When you’re a bit, ahem, hot and sweaty, there’s no bra that feels quite as comfortable as a bikini, and since mine rarely get an airing, I’ve been using any excuse to actually wear them for a change! Not only this, I’ve also seen this as a pretty stellar excuse to get my hands on some more – and the Curvy Kate Horizon Halterneck bikini was one of the sets at the top of my list.
Whilst we’re on the subject of Moda Exhibitions, let me share with you another brand which I feel have a great season ahead of them – and that’s good old faithfuls, Curvy Kate. Again, since their awesome YouTube video (anyone seeing a theme lately of these sneak preview videos popping up everywhere?!), this Autumn/Winter collection has gotten Becky and I rather excited. Plus, can I just take a moment to stress the excitement at the thought of a babydoll up to a K cup!?
Star in a Bra is a competition that I’ve followed since the beginning – I remember back when Lauren Colfer and Laura Butler stormed their year’s competitions and showed us all how it was done. I’ve been everything from a spectating fellow Curvy Kate fan, to a rejected entrant, to a top 30 finalist to a judge. So I think it’s safe to say I’ve seen the competition from every possible angle. It seems crazy that it’s been three years now since I entered and didn’t get through, two since I made the top 30, and a year since I was helping whittle down the favourites into just 30 girls from a list of hundreds of beauties.
It goes without saying that with Valentine’s Day just a few weeks away (that’s right, you heard it here first guys and gals!) I simply couldn’t resist throwing one of these together. If I had an unlimited amount of lingerie budget and/or a boyfriend who was willing to fill (read: overspill) my drawers with new frillies, these would be my choices. I don’t think you need to be sucked into the idea that for Valentine’s Day you need to be buying red nylon lace or crotchless knickers from Ann Summers; sexy can still be pretty and wearable. Something that she can wear year-round. A REVELATION! Bring on the retail therapy without the spending!
Next up in today’s Follow Fridays interview series is the delightful June from Braless in Brasil – one of my go-to blogs for bra problem solving, in-depth information and intellectual opinions on the world of bras – yes, there really is such a thing. June’s blog really is wealth of information. Each of her posts are jam-packed full of text, but it’s always well worth reading and I always learn something every time I stop by. Plus, June is currently pregnant so her recent extra twist of maternity information is really worth checking out if you’re expecting.
I’m no fitting expert and have never claimed to be, but I’ve tried on a LOT of bras on both myself and other women and have developed quite an eye for what makes a ‘good’ bra for me and a lot of other women, and what doesn’t. I have recently had a huge clear out of my lingerie wardrobe, first getting rid of the ones which are clearly not my size or that I’d fallen out of love with, but secondly I made myself try on everything that was left (admittedly still quite a fair pile – oops!) and only kept those that truly FELT amazing.
