Holla! I thought it was about time we had another bra review, and luckily this little gem from the Parfait by Affinitas Autumn/Winter 2012 collection was waiting for me to try her.
I fell in love with this stunning ‘Alexis’ set in purple wine at the Parfait by Affinitas press event back in June. I have to admit the main reason I went for this set is the beautiful colour – it’s drop dead gorgeous! Secondly, I’m a fiend for high-waisted knickers so obviously they were my top choice for the separates.
As regular readers will know, I have quite a naturally-instilled hatred for both plunge and padded bras, but since this was the only available option in this style, I had to just cross my fingers and hope for the best. Unfortunately, this bra didn’t wow me and dig me out of my soft-cup-loving hole, and I found it fitted me much like other moulded plunge styles available elsewhere.
I can’t say that this is the fault of the bra entirely, though, and I may just have to give up the ghost when it comes to this style of bra as it just doesn’t seem to work for me wherever I look – and believe me, I’ve looked everywhere…
As you can see from the image above, the cups fit me fairly well (if not verging a little on overspill), and in a 30FF this leads me to believe that the cups are pretty small in comparison to the average. As is to be expected from a moulded bra, the shape of Parfait by Affinitas’ Alexis from the side is very rounded, but for me I felt a lack of ‘lift’ in the cup area. The cups are also quite wide set – even on me as a wide-set-boobed person, so it may be a bit of a ‘try before you buy’ number.
I wanted this bra to give me a real ‘oomph’ look and cleavage (a bit of an alien term for me 90% of the time I have to say), but I found the fit was a little to relaxed and really just encapsulated and enhanced my natural boobs. Of course this is not necessarily a bad thing, but not what I was hoping for. Not enough of a true plunge shape, I guess.
Like the last set of Parfait by Affinitas that I tried, the band is certainly a firm 30, but I’m not 100% sure that it would be recommendable to a 28-banded gal.
Alexis’ styling is pretty gorgeous, and again I have to get wax lyrical about the shade. It is just the most gorgeous tone of purple which leaves me weak at the knees. The pendant charm which is a little chandelier-esque is really unique and pretty, and drape really beautifully at the apex. The satin ups the ante of the set, and the way it coordinates with the satin front panel of the knickers gives a glam, grown up feel.
The knickers themselves are without a doubt my favourite part. They are just the perfect cut, with stretch lace at the sides which contour to your shape – so flattering! They hit me right on the waist, and were ineffably comfortable. Plus they fit perfectly around my waist-to-hip ratio, which is no mean feat.
Parfait have some really REALLY gorgeous designs, but I feel like their collection is a little overrun with moulded or padded bras, and not so much for girls like me who like fabric cups. Admitted I’ve not tried one of the few soft cup styles that they do do – and that is definitely next on my ‘agenda’ when it comes to further exploring them. If you’re a fan of moulded and padded bras, though, Parfait are definitely worth a look, with fashionable designs and styles up to a G cup.
Attractiveness: 6/10 (with extra points for those knickers!)
