Curvy Kate Portia Bra Review

Share me…Maybe I’ve grown up a little since my last review of the Portia – my tastes have definitely changed and when it comes to Curvy Kates I find myself being more of a ‘Portia’ girl than a ‘Thrill Me’ girl.
Back in my last review I mentioned how I found the fit to be completely off. I now put this down to my own inability with how to tell if something fits, and what to do about it if it doesn’t. In retrospect, I probably needed a 30FF or 28G back then, but the idea of going up to a G was rather ludicrous to me at the time; I was somewhat stuck in my ‘this is my size’ rut, especially since all the other Curvy Kate unpadded bras I owned were 28FFs.
I’ve come back to the Portia partially due to my search for practical yet pretty bras to wear to work under black and white shirts and dresses, and partially because I’m rather keen on the seafoam/pink colourway set to hit in Spring/Summer 13…
Second time round, with a lot more fitting knowledge and patience, the Portia has a new lease of life for me. I’ve tried all sorts of sizes around my ‘usual’ and have found that the cups are definitely on the small side – not massively so, but if you’re in-between cup sizes you’ll definitely need your larger size in this one, and if you’re in too small a size the ribbon detailing definitely runs the risk of creating something which looks a little like this…
Not ideal.
When it comes to how the Portia looks, I’ve found myself growing more and more attached to its simplicity and understated prettiness. I always used to be drawn to a bright colour – the more intense and clashing the better – but I have to say that I reach for the Portia in both black and white fairly often now. The ribbon slot actually works really well for me since I have lower fullness, so how the ribbon makes the cup sit more taut at the top means I’m fully and comfortably encased. Those of you with full-on-top boobs might have more touble finding your ideal ‘Portia size’, and might need to go up in the cups by a whole size or more, just like Holly Jackson of Full Figured Chest. It’s a great staple and one I wouldn’t be without now. In fact, I may even go as far as to say it’s one of my faves from Curvy Kate. Oh how we grow!
