Whilst we’re on the subject of Moda Exhibitions, let me share with you another brand which I feel have a great season ahead of them – and that’s good old faithfuls, Curvy Kate. Again, since their awesome YouTube video (anyone seeing a theme lately of these sneak preview videos popping up everywhere?!), this Autumn/Winter collection has gotten Becky and I rather excited. Plus, can I just take a moment to stress the excitement at the thought of a babydoll up to a K cup!?
‘Betty’ in red Back in February (and yes, I realise it’s now May… I’ve been a bad, bad blogger!!) Becky and I attended the Moda Exhibition in Birmingham for the fifth time. It’s always one of the highlights of the UK lingerie calendar for me, as it’s a chance to catch up with some friendly faces and see what all my old favourite brands will have on offer in their next season’s collection – plus it’s a great chance to find new brands, too!
Star in a Bra is a competition that I’ve followed since the beginning – I remember back when Lauren Colfer and Laura Butler stormed their year’s competitions and showed us all how it was done. I’ve been everything from a spectating fellow Curvy Kate fan, to a rejected entrant, to a top 30 finalist to a judge. So I think it’s safe to say I’ve seen the competition from every possible angle. It seems crazy that it’s been three years now since I entered and didn’t get through, two since I made the top 30, and a year since I was helping whittle down the favourites into just 30 girls from a list of hundreds of beauties.
Pure London is an entirely different show to the larger (as far as lingerie goes!) behemoth that is Moda, but the smaller, intimate feel gives it an a more intimate and independents-focussed vibe. As far as full bust brands go there weren’t many, so we spent some good quality time with some old favourites as well as being introduced to some new ones!
US lingerie retailer Bare Necessities hosted their first UStream bra webinar which aimed to teach women how to fit themselves from home, and educate them about the signs of a good fitting bra. Whilst it felt a little like an Eveden commercial (I can’t think of a single brand mentioned other than Freya, Fantasie, Elomi and Huit – all brands which fall under the Eveden Group), I felt it was a pretty sound explanation of not only how to reach your ‘correct’ bra size but also the whys and wherefores of what makes something a good fit.
Last week I planned a press-day filled day in London with some gorgeous bloggers, and I was beyond – BEYOND – excited to hear that (just by accident) DITA VON TEESE herself was making an appearance to mark the launch of her new lingerie range ‘Von Follies’ in Debenhams in Oxford Street that very day.
I have to admit, this was one of the most fun blog posts I’ve written in a long time. It basically consisted of online shopping, but without the budget or guilt. Best thing ever! I’ve simply put together the top 10 bras that I would pick if I were to ask for lingerie for Christmas. You may not agree with my choices, but it may give you some ideas of what to ask Santa for, or even what to pick up for your significant other.
